Breakfast! Emma is getting more solid food there days. She started on baby rice a while ago, and now is eating avocado, applesauce, pears, carrots, peas, and sweet potatoes, plus some other things in the cupboard. She loves applesauce and avocado! She also, for the first time, drank from a cup, though not very much. She's been playing with a cup for a while, mostly treating it like any other toy -- pick up, stick in mouth. But she's been watching us eat and drink, and when I offered it to her, she took it as you'd drink from it. I put in a little water, and with plenty of help from me, she drank probably a teaspoon of water. Now, its not much, but a remarkable advance in my opinion. Then she went on to play with it, as you can see in the picture.
If you don't recognize the seat, it is called a Bumbo. Anyone with a baby should get one, since they are invaluable. I can feed her by myself with no trouble, rather than trying to get her to eat while holding her on my lap which is exteremely difficult. We bought ours at Babies-R-Us (in Syracuse, near Carousel Center and the Terminal Market). She can't sit up on her own, but the Bumbo holds her up and helps her figure out this whole sitting thing, and she can keep using it till she's over a year old. She loves being up and able to see, and we can do things like mix up her rice cereal while she's sitting in it, which is a huge improvment over holding a wriggling baby in one hand and trying to measure anything with the other.
